I am a member of the Association of Independent Psychotherapists,
I am a registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the United Kingom Council of Psychotherapy.
I am bound by the code of ethics of these organisations.
I have a BA(Hons) degree in Counselling and a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
My own Continuing Professional Development is important for me as a therapist.
In the last few years I have underpinned my experience and knowledge of psychotherapy from a Jungian perspective:
I completed the Foundations of Analytical Psychology Course with the Society of
Analytical Psychology (SAP)
Participated in the Jungian Process and Experiential Group with the SAP
Completed a two year Infant Observation Course,
and in 2014 also successfully completed the Certificate in Supervison with the SAP>
From time to time I attend workshops to support and inform my work.
Over the last fourteen years I have:-
...worked as a therapist in the Psychotherapy Unit of Epsom Hospital
...worked with the elderly and those who are disabled
...supported the terminally ill and their carers.
...I work in private practice as a counsellor and psychotherapist
...I offer therapy to students undertaking Counselling courses
...I am a supervisor for Sutton Counselling
...I offer individual supervision in my private practice
From an early age I felt concern for individuals in distress, and as an adult this drew me to working as a Volunteer for the Brigitte Trust offering emotional and practical help in families where a member was terminally ill, often from cancer. Later, the desire to work professionally, in greater depth and with more understanding led me to train as a counsellor, and finally to undertake psychotherapy training. I discovered for myself that the difficulties we have in our lives and in relationships are often unknowingly connected with earlier experiences. Linking up the past with the present within a therapeutic relationship brings about understanding, greater self acceptance and enables change.
Areas of counselling I deal with:-
Abuse, recovering from addiction, anxiety, bereavement, child related issues, depression, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, life threatening or debilitating illness such as cancer or M.E., difficulties with relationships, sexuality, stress, trauma, work related issues.
I am also interested in spirituality and the search for meaning or a sense of identity.
